The song and the album
Prijović released Devet života, whose title means “nine lives” and which is also styled IX života, on 26 June 2023. Telegraf reported that the album came out at noon that day. Wikipedia notes that every song has a music video, and “Dam dam dam” is the second of its nine tracks.
Wikipedia’s entry on the album credits the words to Dragan Brajović and the music, arrangement and production to Dejan Kostić, a composer who, according to Telegraf, wrote on almost all of the album’s new songs and sings a duet with Prijović on it. The album was released on her own label, A Music, and Wikipedia describes it as pop-folk sung in Serbian.
Sound and subject
Deutsche Welle, reporting on Prijović’s concert in Cologne in October 2024, singled out “Dam, dam, dam”: a song about men looking for casual, one-night relationships, with a rhythm reminiscent of American pop and current global trends under a voice that is Balkan.
That blend fits the way commentators describe her music in general. The sociologist Nemanja Marinović told N1 that she combines world pop with the standard Balkan sound, and Index.hr calls her a pop-folk singer.
A hit across the region
The song travelled well beyond Serbia. Wikipedia reports that it reached the top of Billboard’s Croatia Songs chart, and in July 2025 the Serbian news site Nova.rs reported that its video, with about 97 million views, was the most watched on her YouTube channel, which had just passed one billion views in total.
It also arrived with her first arena tour, Od istoka do zapada. N1 reported that she filled Belgrade’s Štark Arena three times in a row in late September 2023, and she went on to sell out five concerts at Arena Zagreb, in a row according to Deutsche Welle. In October 2024 she played the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, which Deutsche Welle describes as Germany’s largest concert hall.
About Aleksandra Prijović
Aleksandra Prijović was born in Sombor, Serbia, in 1995 and grew up in Beli Manastir, Croatia. She came to wide attention on the televised singing competition Zvezde Granda, finishing fourth in 2013, as Wikipedia, Index.hr and N1 all record. N1 traces her start further back, to singing at weddings, according to tabloid reports.
She is married to Filip Živojinović, whose stepmother is the singer Lepa Brena; fans, N1 noted, see Prijović as Brena’s successor. In Emblem World, the song sits in the Serbia music collection, where people discover and rate local food, drink and music.
