About this Emblem

A wide-eyed little ghost glows blue in the night square. The Emblem tells a legend of Minsk City Hall, the civic landmark on Freedom Square, first built in the late 16th century, pulled down in 1857 and rebuilt to its 19th-century appearance in 2004. The story goes that Michal Volodkovich, a notorious 18th-century troublemaker who held a seat in the city's magistrate, was executed in 1760 without repenting, and that his restless spirit still wanders the hall at night.
